Message from the LD17 Chair

Calling All PCs! The Time is Short!

By now, all precinct committee members in Pima County received an envelope from Pima County Dems with all the materials you need to become an elected PC for the 2026-28 election cycle.* Note you have a March 13 deadline.

Please open your packet NOW and complete the forms and nomination petition. PCs are the backbone of the Democratic Party and a main source of information about candidates and issues for our voters. We need your help to get our candidates elected and to flip the State Legislature!

The Legislature moved the date of the statewide primary back by two weeks. Send your completed petition and Nomination Form to Andy Flach so he receives it before March 13. He needs to verify your information and submit it to County Elections by Monday, March 23. The Pima Dems’ address is 2302 E Speedway, Suite 106, Tucson, AZ 85719. If you have questions about the process, email Andy at corrsecretary@pimadems.org.

You need 10 signatures on the petition enclosed in your packet. Use the enclosed list of voters in your neighborhood and go knock on a few doors. Importantly, YOU can sign your own petition. Your spouse or other family members can, too, if they are a Democrat or independent voter and live in your precinct. (Members of other parties [Republican, Green, No Labels] CANNOT sign your petition.) I’m sure you know nine other Democrats who will be willing to sign your petition. Again, those Democrats must live in your precinct.

What if you currently are not a PC and would like to become one? Find the instructions and forms on the Pima Dems webpage: https://www.pimadems.org/get-involved/precinct-committeeperson. Go straight to the button that reads “Download the 2026-2028 Elected PC Candidate Packet”

If you are already an appointed PC (that is, anyone who became a PC after our organizational meeting in November 2024) ignore the button with info on becoming appointed. You must become an elected PC to continue serving beyond September 30, 2026, unless you want to go through the appointment process again. That won’t happen between October 1 and our reorganizational meeting in November 2026, which means that you won’t be able to vote on LD or county party leadership, because only elected PCs get to vote on the officers and board for both the county party and the legislative district committee. In addition, only elected PCs in the LD can vote on the names submitted to the county board of supervisors to replace a state legislator who decides to step down mid-term.

You have an important job, and we need you! Please get your forms completed and send them in to Pima Dems this week!

*Pinal County Dems must email Jennifer Hilsbos, the Pinal County Democratic Chair, for the forms to fill out to be elected or re-elected as Pinal County PCs. Her email is chair@pinaldemocrats.org.
