LD17 Tabling Team Update
A New Tabler’s Perspective - Meet Phil
Engineer by training and a humanist at heart, Phil found his way to tabling in an unexpectedly simple way: he answered the door to a Democratic canvasser.
Raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Phil earned degrees in chemical engineering and began his career with a major company in Rochester, New York. After five long, snowy winters, he was ready to return to the Southwest, where he built a career in the oil and gas industry until retiring in May 2025.
With retirement came time to focus on long-held interests—history, current affairs, and community involvement. When a Democratic canvasser knocked on his door, Phil didn’t just listen; he got involved. He joined LD17 and soon became part of the Tanque Verde Territory volunteer team, serving as both a tabler and canvasser.
As a grandfather of two, Phil is deeply invested in the future. He worries that “his granddaughter will have fewer rights than his sisters did,” and that concern fuels his commitment. He finds purpose in helping others take that first step toward engagement—even if it begins with simply signing a petition. And like all seasoned tablers eventually discover, he appreciates one universal truth: “It’s always fun to encounter a few individuals more than happy to tell us their life story!”
Thank you, Phil, for sharing a bit of yours—and for all you do for LD17.
