Meet Our Summer Intern: Tre’Davon

We’re excited to welcome Tre’Davon, a Tucson native and 2024 graduate of Sabino High School, as LD17’s summer intern. A proud product of TUSD, Tre credits his public school education with preparing him well for the future. This fall, he begins his sophomore year at the University of Arizona, where he’s double-majoring in Political Science and Economics.

Tre’s passion for politics stems from a desire to advocate for families struggling under a system he believes has let them down. As he puts it, "How can they pull themselves up by their bootstraps when they have no boots?" His focus is on affordable living and equitable access to opportunity—issues that have shaped his goals since childhood.

Tre’s work experience includes a stint at Beyond Bread, still his go-to meeting spot—and the past year working in the afterschool program at La Paloma Academy. Though hired as a monitor, "Mr. Tre" quickly found himself helping students with homework and was surprised to discover how much he enjoyed working with children.

His volunteer leadership roles are impressive: Events and Outreach Director for Pima County Young Democrats, Director of Recruitment for the College Democrats at U of A, board member of Democrats of Greater Tucson, and Chair of the African American Democratic Caucus. He values the mentorship and friendships he’s found through these groups.

Tre sees his future as wide open, whether it’s a long career in politics or public service in affordable housing. Grounded by his love for family, his sense of justice, and his good humor, Tre’s outlook is bright. One day we’ll be able to say, "We knew him when…"
