Did you know the Save America Act, also related to the MEGA act and the Safeguard America Act, does NOT protect election integrity? The Trump administration wants you to believe there is widespread voter fraud, but many studies prove that isn’t true. A review of information available on the League of Women Voters, ACLU, Brennan Center, and other fact-based websites show the Save Act will actually make it much more difficult to vote. Voter registration would have to be in person at a specified office using documents many people don’t have in their possession, such as a birth certificate or marriage certificate showing a name change. People who have suffered home fires, Native Americans, and overseas military members may find it very difficult and costly to obtain the required documents. As these websites say, the bills also require faulty voter roll purges, severe limits on vote-by-mail, threats to election workers, and unwarranted access to your personal records.

Per the ACLU, “These bills aren’t about safeguarding elections. They’re about silencing voters.” The truth is people with plenty of money and time can meet the requirements easily, but ordinary working folks will be deprived of their right to vote.

Please contact your Senators and Representatives in Congress (their contact info is at the bottom of the newsletter) and let them know the “Save America” bills are unacceptable, and they must vote them down.
