Beth Britton: A Treasure to LD17

When Beth Britton received her Community Recognition Award at the Udall Dinner in May, it marked her retirement as Team Lead in Marana—but not the end of her work with LD17 Democrats. This fall she is launching a new initiative: a Pro-Democracy information table in Marana, a majority-Republican town. Thanks to her extensive network of PCs and friends, Beth has already pulled together a motivated volunteer team, with tabling set to begin in early October.

So how did this Democratic dynamo get here? Beth grew up in western Kansas, the daughter of a Republican family in a deep-red state. Even as a child, her strong sense of fairness clashed with the discrimination—especially against women—she witnessed around her. Moving to Flagstaff for a career in teaching and later as a grant writer, she embraced the rich Navajo and Hispanic cultures she encountered. She wasn’t in Kansas anymore.

Now a grandmother of four and a great-grandmother, Beth draws strength from her family and friendships. Her life has included both joys and deep challenges, but through it all she has stayed resilient and engaged. Since retiring 15 years ago, she has devoted herself fully to Democratic volunteer work. Despite mobility limitations, she continues to lead with remarkable skill as an organizer and project manager. Volunteers describe her as a caring coordinator; friends in LD17 call her a “treasure,” an “inspiration,” and above all, a beautiful soul.

Lucky us. Thank you, Beth.
