Did You Know?

Did you know the main job of our elected legislators is to pass a state budget for Arizona? Their job is to represent you and your needs while deciding how to spend billions (more than $111 billion in FY2025) of your taxpayer dollars!

The Republican-controlled legislature has yet to produce a responsible budget proposal. They want to deliver more tax breaks to large corporations, while Governor Hobbs wants to deliver tax breaks that will help working families and small businesses. She has used her veto power to pressure Republican leadership to construct a budget that helps families and small businesses before corporations.

Instead of getting to work for the people, Republican leadership sent the legislators home for all but one day of May. That was over the objections of Kevin Volk, our LD17 Representative, and other Democratic legislators. Kevin and the other Democrats were ready and willing to continue doing their jobs to produce a compromise budget that works for all Arizonans.

It's time to point the “you’re fired” finger at legislators who want to be paid while not doing their jobs. It’s time to replace them with legislators who are there for the people – not a paycheck or power. It’s time for LD17 voters to re-elect Kevin Volk, AZ House Representative, plus elect Holly Lyon for AZ House and Edgar Soto for AZ Senate. Whether we live in LD17 or not, we Arizonans deserve the strong and thoughtful representation these candidates will bring to the Arizona legislature.
