Did You Know?

Did you know the richest man on earth has a PAC (Political Action Committee) which he’s using to steal your information and possibly your right to vote? The following short story is how I found out about it.

Yesterday I was part of a team staffing a voter and candidate information table at our local library. A young woman and a family member stopped by to ask for assistance. Although the young woman helped the family member in registering to vote, the family member received no confirmation in the mail. We used the link we had to the Pima County Recorder’s office to check the registration, but multiple tries only resulted in a trouble message with a phone number to call. We gave her a paper registration form to complete and warned that October 5th was the last day to register. We also asked her to call the number on the Recorders’ office message, told her it is a legitimate number, and the people there are very helpful.

Given information from the young woman, we researched and found the site we believe she used. What we found was VOTE SAFE by Elon Musk’s America PAC. The website looks official, with red, white and blue colors and a flag motif shield. Plus, it’s website address ends in “.org,” which really makes it seem official.

This is another one of those “Don’t be fooled” moments. There is nothing official about this website, and there is nothing official about it’s “nonpartisan tools” you can supposedly use to register to vote or check your registration. This site is set up to get you to give them a lot of your personal information. That information can then be used by the PAC or Elon Musk himself – or it can be sold to others. The Hill calls it a “Trojan Horse,” and The Legal Defense Fund says “VOTESAFE.ORG IS NOT SAFE.” Please tell your family, friends, co-workers, and other voters you know to avoid this website (and others like it) and never give it any information!

For voting information in our county, go to the Pima County Recorder’s Office official website at recorder.pima.gov . There you can safely check your registration – it’s easy and secure. If you have any trouble checking, you may call them at 520-591-7140 to get accurate, friendly help.

NOTE: Don’t be discouraged by these shenanigans; they are trying anything that will keep you from voting. Let your voice be heard – VOTE!!! Kris Mayes, our outstanding Attorney General, won her race by only 280 votes in her last election. That shows how important every vote is – how important your vote is. Make your voice heard and vote for every race from local school board to governor. VOTE!
