Lightning Round: Five Questions for Kevin Volk

Kevin Volk, Candidate for re-election as LD17 Representative

M & M: Tell us about your first job.

Kevin: I believe my first job was doing cold calling to real estate prospects. It was a rough time economically. Not only were the response rates low, but very few of the people who did pick up responded positively. Little did I know that it would be a good preparation for being a candidate much later calling for contributions and knocking on doors.

M & M: You’re now running for re-election as one of our two Representatives from LD17 in the Arizona State Legislature. You were successful in getting one of the few Democratic bills passed and signed into law. What legislation will you focus on next?

Kevin: That depends so much on if we have the same Republicans in control or if we have different leadership! Under the status quo, I would likely have the ability to have one or maybe two bills heard of more limited scope. With different leadership, there’s so many things we could do to improve education, protect our water, and tackle cost of living from a bunch of different angles!

M & M: What has surprised you most during this campaign?

Kevin: Over the past weeks, I have heard multiple variations of the same sentiment – that people are “tired” of Trump. And it seems to be not just figurative, but literal, as in they are actually tired of hearing about him and thinking about him and dealing with the chaos that he generates on a daily basis. That has been very interesting to hear across party lines.

M & M: What is your favorite food and where do you get it?

Kevin: Mexican food – I have an abundance of amazing options in Tucson! Casa Molina is a family favorite.

M & M: What makes you laugh?

Kevin: So much, from comedy movies to situational humor that comes up with friends and family. I love to laugh and think it’s a great way to deal with the stress of life and especially the legislature. In Phoenix, we laugh so we don’t go crazy!
