Did you know? SNAP

Did you know a Government Accountability Office report shows there are over 14,500 Walmart workers who receive SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits? Formerly known as Food Stamps, SNAP benefits go mainly to children, disabled people, and elderly people with little or no other resources. Did you know most recipients are white, and many of them meet work requirements already?

In Arizona, approximately 12% of the residents receive SNAP and related food assistance, such as free school lunch or WIC food for pregnant women and babies. Here 68% goes to families with children and 29% to families with disabled or elderly adults. In our state, 40% of recipients are in working families – higher than the national average. Obviously SNAP assists people below or near the poverty line. These are people who have no resources to fall back on while Republicans fail to protect them. Instead, they are cruelly sticking to their plan to cut medical care and food benefits for millions of Americans; so they can give billionaires huge tax cuts.

You can help by calling your Representatives and Senators (of all parties) often to support food assistance and affordable medical care/insurance for all.
