Dems 4 Picture Rocks - Reaching Out In a Rural Area

Canvassing is tough here, especially after the monsoon washed out so many roads, but for other reasons as well.  Even the paved roads are not always easy since the homes are typically far apart.  I'm on five acres myself, with no real neighbors except the fauna in the National Park across from my property.  Nothing like NYC where I came from!  Having said that, we did some canvassing in areas that were possible.

We have been active, though.  Since our successful candidate house party (9 state and local candidates with an audience of 40 people), we mailed out 4,001 postcards to low-voting Dems and left-leaning Independents in Tucson Estates, the areas of Marana close to PR and to PR itself, of course.  (Tucson Estates since we are divided into LD17 and LD16, always creating more work for us.)  These postcards let people know all the Dem candidates to vote for in both LDs, what Props to vote Yes or No on, and made it clear to vote the entire ballot and to vote early.

We also have tabling teams going out to PR, Marana and Tucson Estates; these teams are still active and having some success with voters.  Of course, we did voter registration, put up candidate signs and made phone calls to get out the vote and answer any questions about the canddiates and the election itself.

Lastly, we had David Fitzsimmons come to our community center to work up the crowd.  Always a big hit with a large audience and a way to get new members.

As you know, we're a small club but we have more work to still do, as all of you are doing.  Thanks to each and everyone of you for what you do!
