Did You Know?

Did you know we taxpayers are spending billions of dollars to pay for corruption in government?  According to credible sources, such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Economic Forum, and our own FBI, these dollars are lost due to bribery, rigged bidding for contracts, skimming to phony shell companies, kickbacks, insufficient auditing, fraudulent payments in government programs and contracts, lack of tax code enforcement, lack of accountability, and waste.

Before we go further, we must acknowledge that very few government workers are corrupt themselves; they are taxpaying citizens doing their jobs to the best of their ability and constrained by the resources available to them.  The corruption we are talking about is linked to power, lobbying, the huge influence big money has in getting people elected, and the pressure to abuse power in service to those who have great wealth.

Picture a long reflecting pool with algae everywhere and globs of poorly installed, disintegrating, new “liner” floating in it.  Picture again a big empty space and construction zone where the White House East Wing once stood.  Neither of these projects were approved by Congress as the law requires, because a bogus “emergency” excuse was dreamed up by the administration.  Sure, they claimed outside donations would pay for the ballroom, but in reality the taxpayers are footing the bill; there aren’t enough donations to begin covering the cost. They spent millions (so far) of your tax money without any accountability whatsoever – just on these two projects.  These are only two of many unnecessary expenses driving our national debt up – think Iran war and tax breaks for the wealthy – and thus driving up interest rates.

What else do we lose?  In addition to our hard-earned money, we lose faith in government, confidence in our security, and economic stability.  We also lose vital services as they use the economic fallout from these huge expenditures to claim we can’t afford to help our families and neighbors obtain food, education, housing, medical care and the other necessities to survive and prosper.  We lose the American Dream.

How do we turn this disaster around?  It isn’t by re-electing the same Republicans in power who answer to the wealthy instead of you.  You can stop the corruption by voting for Democrats who work hard every day for ALL their constituents – not just the wealthy and powerful.  Vote for Democrats; give them time, the resources to do their jobs, and your support; then hold them accountable.  It’s your money!
